We explored the effects of methylsulfonylmethane (MSM) on knee pain through a well-structured randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial.
Involving 88 healthy participants, the study compared the outcomes of those taking MSM against a placebo over a 12-week period.
Results showed that MSM significantly improved knee health and overall well-being according to the Japanese Knee Osteoarthritis Measure, with a notable difference in scores between the two groups.
This suggests that MSM could be a helpful option for those dealing with mild knee pain.

MSM ineffective for knee pain
A randomized controlled trial evaluating methylsulfonylmethane versus placebo to prevent knee pain in military initial entry trainees.
We examined the impact of methylsulfonylmethane (MSM) on knee pain in military trainees. In a randomized controlled trial, 180 participants, aged 18 to 40, either received 3 grams of MSM or a placebo for 8 weeks.
Unfortunately, our findings showed no significant improvements in knee pain levels or mood scores among those taking MSM compared to the placebo group. Although MSM can be safely consumed, it seems it may not effectively prevent knee pain in active individuals.

Glucosamine, a major component of cartilage tissue, protects joints from damage and has a shock-absorbing effect. It also contributes to the synovial fluid, which lubricates and nourishes the joints. Chondroitin aids in producing joint fluid and restoring cartilage, possessing anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties. Together, glucosamine and chondroitin effectively protect and restore cartilage. Since I began taking them, I’ve noticed my knee almost never hurts, and I’ve even observed improvements in my hair and nails.

I bought this a year ago based on my trainer's recommendation for physical exercise. Initially, I didn't notice much and didn't repurchase it. Then, after a period of running and cycling, one knee was in agony for a month. I ordered it again and, after a month of consistent use, my knee no longer bothered me. Now, I take this supplement periodically, as it helps replenish joint functions. I wasn't sure about these supplements initially, but I’ve grown to trust them.

This stuff works! Upon my vet's recommendation, I use one capsule daily for my Bichon. He had leg and knee problems, and since adding this powder, he's experienced no difficulties whatsoever.
Knee pain is a common condition that can result from various causes, including injuries, overuse, and underlying medical conditions such as arthritis. The knee joint is a complex structure composed of bones, ligaments, tendons, and cartilage, all of which work together to enable movement and support body weight. When any of these components are damaged or inflamed, it can lead to discomfort, stiffness, swelling, and reduced mobility in the affected area.
In many cases, knee pain can manifest as acute pain following an injury, such as a tear in a ligament or cartilage damage. Alternatively, it may develop gradually due to factors like repetitive strain, age-related degeneration, or conditions like osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. Treatment options vary widely and may include rest, physical therapy, medication, or, in severe cases, surgical interventions. If you're experiencing persistent knee pain, it's advisable to consult with a healthcare professional for an accurate diagnosis and tailored treatment plan.
Glucosamine Chondroitin formulas are dietary supplements commonly used to support joint health and alleviate symptoms associated with osteoarthritis. These formulas typically contain glucosamine, a naturally occurring compound in the body that contributes to the formation and repair of cartilage, and chondroitin sulfate, which helps cartilage retain water and maintain its elasticity. Together, these ingredients are believed to promote joint function, reduce pain, and improve overall mobility, particularly in individuals who experience wear and tear on their joints due to age, physical activity, or injury.
The efficacy of glucosamine and chondroitin supplements can vary from person to person, and while some users report significant relief from joint discomfort, scientific studies on their effectiveness have produced mixed results. It's essential to consult with a healthcare provider before adding these supplements to your routine, especially if you have existing health conditions or are taking other medications. Many brands also blend these ingredients with additional vitamins, minerals, or herbal extracts to enhance their joint-supporting benefits, making it crucial to read labels and choose formulas that fit your specific needs.
Glucosamine and chondroitin sulfate are popular supplements often marketed for joint health, especially for conditions like osteoarthritis and knee pain. While some studies suggest that these compounds may offer relief by reducing inflammation and promoting cartilage health, the evidence is mixed. A 2015 study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association found that glucosamine did not significantly relieve pain compared to a placebo. However, some users report subjective improvements in their symptoms and joint function after using these supplements over a longer period.
It’s important to note that the effectiveness of glucosamine and chondroitin can vary by individual. Factors such as the severity of joint pain, overall diet, and lifestyle choices also play crucial roles in joint health. If you’re considering these supplements for knee pain, it’s always a good idea to discuss it with a healthcare professional who can help guide you on proper dosage and potential interactions with other medications.
Based on user reviews, the time it typically takes to see results from taking supplements for knee pain varies considerably among individuals. Many users report noticing significant improvements within one to two months of consistent use. For instance, one reviewer indicated that their knee pain diminished significantly after just six weeks, and it completely vanished after two months of usage Read Review. Another user commented that while they didn’t notice much initially, after about one month of consistent use following a period of heavy activity, their knee pain was resolved Read Review.
Some users have experienced noticeable changes in much shorter times. For example, a user reported feeling a difference within days of starting the supplement Read Review. Conversely, a different user shared that it took them five months of usage before realizing their knee no longer hurt Read Review. This variability underscores the importance of consistent use over time and suggests that while some may experience rapid relief, others might require longer periods before seeing improvements.
The effectiveness of supplements for knee pain varies, with mixed evidence supporting the use of methylsulfonylmethane (MSM) and some joint pain formulas. Notably, a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial involving 88 participants found that MSM significantly improved knee health and overall well-being, particularly regarding mild knee pain, as measured by the Japanese Knee Osteoarthritis Measure [1]. On the contrary, another study with military trainees found no significant improvements in knee pain for those taking MSM compared to a placebo [2]. Furthermore, while some research indicated minimal improvements in knee osteoarthritis symptoms with MSM [5] and [4], these results were not overwhelmingly conclusive.
In contrast, Instaflex™, a joint pain supplement assessed in a trial involving older adults, demonstrated a significant reduction in knee pain severity and enhancement in daily activities [3]. This suggests that while MSM may offer some benefits for those with mild knee pain, its overall effectiveness in treating knee pain remains uncertain. On the other hand, Instaflex™ appears to provide more reliable relief for older adults experiencing chronic knee discomfort. It is always advisable to consult with a healthcare professional before starting any supplement regimen.
Based on user reviews, many individuals have reported significant improvements in their joint health and pain relief after taking glucosamine and chondroitin supplements. For example, several users noted that their knee pain diminished or completely vanished within a couple of months. One user indicated that after six weeks, their pain was greatly reduced, and by two months, it was no longer present Read Review. Others have experienced similar outcomes, such as a reviewer who was able to ascend stairs without difficulty and another who reported no longer needing a cane after consistent use over a year Read ReviewRead Review.
Several users also mentioned rapid improvements, with some noticing changes within just a few days of taking the supplement Read Review. Many found that these supplements not only alleviated knee pain but also reduced joint crunching and discomfort in other areas, such as the back and hips Read Review. As with any health supplement, individual results can vary, and while many shared positive experiences, it’s important to consult with a healthcare professional for tailored advice.
Users report varied experiences when combining glucosamine and chondroitin with other supplements for knee pain. Many individuals note enhanced effectiveness when these supplements are paired with additional ingredients, such as MSM or digestive enzymes. For instance, one reviewer highlighted that taking glucosamine with chondroitin proved essential for alleviating knee crunching and pain, suggesting that a combination with digestive enzymes may further enhance results Read Review. Another user mentioned using glucosamine, chondroitin, and MSM together specifically for arthrosis, emphasizing that this combination helped regenerate cartilage tissue and reduce inflammation Read Review.
Moreover, users have found success in using these supplements alongside physical activities and healthy dietary choices to maximize joint support. For example, a user shared a positive experience after undergoing knee surgery and noted a faster recovery process while taking glucosamine alongside other supplements Read Review. Overall, the consensus among users suggests that pairing glucosamine and chondroitin with other supplements can lead to more significant improvements in managing knee pain and enhancing joint health.
Users often report that the effective dosage for Glucosamine Chondroitin Formulas varies, but many find significant relief from knee pain with a regime of 2 to 3 capsules daily. For instance, one user stated they have been taking two capsules every morning for three years, noting that their knee pain has disappeared and they continue their workouts without discomfort Read Review. Another review highlighted a daily intake of 2 in the morning and 1 in the evening without any side effects, showing that consistent use can lead to positive outcomes Read Review.
Some users have benefited from adjusting their dosage based on their individual needs, with one highlighting the positive effect of taking 2 capsules daily while their partner took 3 due to differences in weight Read Review. Overall, the feedback suggests that starting with a dose ranging from 2 to 3 capsules may be a good approach for those looking to alleviate knee pain and improve joint function.

About six months ago, I began experiencing knee pain and tried multiple treatments with no success. I hesitantly tried a product from a famous Japanese sesame company, but I doubted it would be effective due to the high cost. After drinking it for five months with a bit of scepticism, I suddenly realised my knees no longer hurt! I can sit upright without discomfort, and even cycling is pain-free now! This is remarkably affordable compared to the sesame company's product. I’m very grateful!

This really helps! I decided to try it because my knee constantly clicked in all situations. It was concerning to train under heavy weights with this click. I also bought knee pads, but this addition turned out to be more cost-effective. I took 2 capsules daily, while my husband took 3, depending on his weight. Now, my knee doesn’t click, so the product works! I recommend it!
